Which Caribbean island contains Mount Liamuiga, the highest peak in Saint Kitts and Nevis?

The story behind the answer

Saint Kitts contains Mount Liamuiga, the highest peak in Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Mount Liamuiga is a 1,156-metre stratovolcano at the northern end of Saint Kitts. Its summit includes a broad crater, and the mountain’s slopes are covered by tropical vegetation. The name Liamuiga comes from the island’s Kalinago heritage and is commonly translated as “fertile land.”

Saint Kitts and Nevis is a two-island country in the Lesser Antilles. Nevis has its own volcanic summit, Nevis Peak, but Mount Liamuiga is higher and is located on Saint Kitts. The distinction matters because the country’s name refers to both islands, while the mountain belongs to only one.

The mountain was formerly known as Mount Misery. Its present name reflects efforts to recognize Indigenous Caribbean history and older local geographic traditions.
