Dragons' Den is the Canadian television series that adapts the Dragons' Den business-pitch format for Canada. The Canadian programme gives entrepreneurs an opportunity to present companies and investment proposals to a panel of Canadian businesspeople.
The Canadian version premiered in 2006 and became a long-running CBC programme. Like the British series, it uses the language of dragons for its investors and centres on negotiations over money, valuation and ownership. Its panel and contestants, however, belong to the Canadian production rather than the British show.
A common mix-up is to call the Canadian programme Shark Tank Canada. Shark Tank is the title used by the American adaptation, while Canada retained the Dragons' Den name. The Canadian series is therefore a separate national production even though it belongs to the same international format family.
The shared title does not mean that the British and Canadian episodes are interchangeable; they have different broadcasters, casts and production histories.
