Which Cambridge college hosted C.S. Lewis when he became a professor there in 1954?

The story behind the answer

Magdalene College hosted C.S. Lewis when he became a professor at Cambridge in 1954.

In 1954, Lewis was appointed the first holder of the chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at the University of Cambridge. He held the post until his retirement in 1963 and was a fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge.

This appointment followed his long Oxford career at Magdalen College, a similarly named institution. The two colleges are separate: Magdalen College, Oxford, was Lewis’s earlier academic home, while Magdalene College, Cambridge, was connected with his Cambridge professorship.

Lewis continued writing during his Cambridge years, although his health declined toward the end of his life. He died in 1963, the same year he retired from Cambridge.
