Which Cambridge college became C.S. Lewis’s fellowship after he moved from Oxford?

The story behind the answer

Magdalene College became C.S. Lewis’s Cambridge fellowship after he moved from Oxford.

In 1954, Lewis was appointed to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance English at Cambridge University. He became a fellow of Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he continued teaching and writing until his death. The college’s name is spelled Magdalene, with an extra “e” compared with Magdalen College at Oxford.

This distinction matters because Lewis is strongly associated with both institutions. At Oxford, he was a fellow and tutor at Magdalen College from 1925 to 1954. At Cambridge, he held the university chair and a fellowship at Magdalene College from 1954 onward. The move did not end his Oxford connections: he continued to live near Oxford for much of this period and remained connected to friends and colleagues there.
