Which businesswoman was one of the original investors on Britain's Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Rachel Elnaugh was one of the original investors on Britain's Dragon's Den.

Elnaugh joined the launch panel when the British series began in 2005. She was known as an entrepreneur and became one of the programme's earliest female Dragons, evaluating pitches alongside Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Doug Richard and others.

Her business background included the gift and greeting-card company Red Letter Days, which she founded. That experience made her a particularly recognisable investor for pitches involving consumer products, retail and brand development.

Elnaugh's tenure was relatively early in the show's history, so she is sometimes confused with later female Dragons such as Deborah Meaden, Hilary Devey, Kelly Hoppen or Sara Davies. Those investors joined the panel in different periods.
