Which businessman joined Dragon's Den as a Dragon for its fifth series?

The story behind the answer

James Caan joined Dragon's Den as a Dragon for its fifth series.

Caan is a British-Pakistani businessman and investor known for founding recruitment companies, including Alexander Mann Solutions and Hamilton Bradshaw. His experience was concentrated in recruitment, private equity and business investment rather than consumer retail alone.

He joined the programme in 2007, when the fifth series was broadcast. His appointment followed the early period of the show, whose original panel had included Doug Richard and Simon Woodroffe. Caan later became associated with investments in a range of growing businesses presented by entrepreneurs in the Den.

This fact is easy to mix up with the careers of Peter Jones and Duncan Bannatyne, both of whom were present from the first series. It is also distinct from Nick Jenkins, who joined much later. The useful identifying combination is Caan, series 5 and 2007.
