The British television programme Dragons' Den first aired on BBC Two.
The business reality show premiered in January 2005, adapting the format in which entrepreneurs present ideas to wealthy investors. Contestants seek investment in exchange for an ownership share, while the investors question their finances, market, and plans.
BBC Two became the programme's original home and remains closely associated with the series. This is sometimes confused with BBC One because several BBC factual and entertainment programmes moved channels as their audiences grew. Dragons' Den, however, began on BBC Two rather than BBC One or a commercial broadcaster.
The British version was adapted from the Japanese format Money Tigers. Its success led to international versions, including Canada's Dragons' Den and the United States programme Shark Tank. The title and investor lineup vary between countries, but the central pitch-and-negotiate structure remains similar.
