The British television programme Dragon’s Den is the UK adaptation of an international investment format also known as Dragon’s Den.
The British edition began in 2005 and follows the format’s core structure: entrepreneurs pitch for money and offer a percentage of their business to investors. The investors question the figures, assess the opportunity and may make competing or conditional offers.
The format originated in Japan and has been adapted in many territories. In the United States, the corresponding version is Shark Tank, which uses a different name for its investors. That title is therefore a related adaptation, not the British programme itself.
The British series retained the “Dragons” terminology and developed its own panel, presenter and production history. International versions can differ in casting, terminology and broadcast dates even when the underlying pitch-and-investment structure is similar.
