Which British Dragon's Den investor founded the technology company Phones 4u?
Answer
John Caudwell
Answer
John Caudwell
John Caudwell founded the technology retailer Phones 4u.
Caudwell established Phones 4u in the United Kingdom and built it into a major mobile-phone retailer. The company sold mobile handsets and contracts through stores, becoming a familiar name during the rapid expansion of mobile-phone ownership and network competition.
Caudwell later became known publicly as a philanthropist and appeared as an investor on the British version of Dragon's Den. His business career is sometimes confused with that of Peter Jones, another Dragon associated with mobile-phone retail and telecommunications. The two men had different business histories, although both were linked with the technology and communications sector.
Phones 4u ceased trading in 2014 after the major mobile networks withdrew their support. That later collapse does not change Caudwell’s role in founding and developing the retailer.
