Which British Dragons' Den investor founded the company Amstrad?
Answer
Alan Sugar
Answer
Alan Sugar
Alan Sugar founded the British electronics company Amstrad and later became an investor on Dragons' Den.
Sugar established Amstrad in 1968, and the company became known for consumer electronics, including hi-fi equipment, computers and satellite television products. The name Amstrad comes from Alan Michael Sugar Trading, linking the brand directly to its founder.
Sugar joined the British Dragons' Den panel in the programme's first series, but his tenure was brief compared with Peter Jones. His commercial background was built through Amstrad rather than through the modern online businesses associated with some later Dragons.
Amstrad is sometimes confused with Sugar's later business interests or with the technology companies founded by other panel members. It was his original electronics company and the source of much of his public reputation before television made him widely known as Lord Sugar.
