The British business-investment show featuring entrepreneurs pitching to a panel known as the dragons is Dragons' Den.
The BBC programme is structured around face-to-face pitches. An entrepreneur enters the room, describes a business, states the investment wanted and offers a proportion of the company. The investors then question the entrepreneur about sales, costs, valuation, intellectual property and plans for growth.
The title refers to the investor panel rather than to a fictional dragon character. The dragons are successful businesspeople who decide independently whether to make an offer. A pitch can produce one offer, several competing offers, a renegotiated deal or no investment at all.
The British series should not be confused with Dragons' Den editions made in other countries, or with The Apprentice, another business-related television programme with a different format. It is also commonly written with an incorrect singular possessive, “Dragon's Den”; the official British title uses the plural “Dragons'.”
