BBC Two originally aired Dragon's Den when the British series launched.
The programme premiered on BBC Two in January 2005, giving viewers a televised version of the entrepreneur-and-investor pitch format. Contestants enter the studio to present a business proposition, answer questions and negotiate with the investors, who are known as the Dragons.
BBC Two has historically carried many factual, documentary and specialist entertainment programmes, making it a natural home for a business-focused format. Dragon's Den later became one of the BBC's best-known entrepreneurial programmes and reached a much wider audience than a conventional business documentary.
The show is sometimes associated with BBC One because of its broad popularity, but its original British home was BBC Two. This distinction matters because the launch channel is a specific historical fact, while later scheduling and repeated broadcasts can make the programme's television identity seem less precise.
