Which British brig-sloop did USS Wasp sink in June 1814?

The story behind the answer

The British brig-sloop sunk by USS Wasp in June 1814 was HMS Reindeer.

The engagement took place on June 28, 1814, about 225 miles west of Plymouth, England. Wasp, commanded by Master Commandant Johnston Blakeley, encountered Reindeer, an 18-gun Cruizer-class brig-sloop under Commander William Manners. The two ships exchanged close-range fire in a notably short but violent action.

The battle lasted about 19 minutes. Reindeer’s crew attempted to board Wasp several times, but the American sailors repelled each attempt. Wasp then boarded Reindeer and captured her. Manners was killed, and the British ship suffered 25 dead and 42 wounded. Wasp was damaged but remained seaworthy.

After transferring prisoners, the Americans set Reindeer on fire; the captured vessel later exploded. Wasp continued her cruise and took additional prizes before reaching Lorient, France. HMS Boxer, HMS Penguin, and HMS Epervier were also British vessels defeated or captured by American ships during the war, but none was the June 1814 opponent sunk by Wasp.
