Which 1814 battle killed British Major General Robert Ross during the Baltimore campaign?

The story behind the answer

The 1814 battle that killed British Major General Robert Ross during the Baltimore campaign was the Battle of North Point.

Fought on September 12, 1814, the engagement pitted Maryland militia under General John Stricker against British troops advancing toward Baltimore. The battle was part of the larger British campaign that also included the attack on Fort McHenry.

Ross was shot in the chest while riding toward an opening skirmish near the American lines. He died soon afterward, and command passed to Colonel Arthur Brooke. Although the British won the field tactically, Ross's death disrupted their momentum and helped give Baltimore's defenders time to strengthen the city's defenses.

North Point is sometimes confused with the Battle of Bladensburg, where British forces defeated American troops and burned Washington. Crysler's Farm and Stoney Creek were separate War of 1812 battles in Canada.
