Which British automaker did Ford Motor Company acquire in 2000?

The story behind the answer

Ford Motor Company acquired Land Rover in 2000.

Land Rover had previously been part of the Rover Group and was owned by BMW before Ford purchased it. The acquisition expanded Ford’s Premier Automotive Group, which brought several luxury and performance marques under Ford’s ownership during that period.

Land Rover was established as a vehicle marque in 1948, when the first Land Rover was unveiled at the Amsterdam Motor Show. Its vehicles became known for four-wheel-drive capability and off-road use, while later models also targeted the luxury market.

Ford sold Land Rover to Tata Motors in 2008, together with Jaguar. This means Land Rover’s period under Ford ownership lasted less than a decade. It is also distinct from Ford’s earlier acquisition of Jaguar, which occurred in 1989 and is a separate historical event.
