What name did Ford give its full-size pickup truck line introduced in 1948?

The story behind the answer

Ford named its full-size pickup truck line introduced in 1948 the Ford F-Series.

The F-Series replaced Ford’s earlier car-based and commercial pickup designs with a purpose-built range of trucks. Its first generation, sold from 1948 to 1952, was marketed under the “Bonus-Built” name and included models ranging from the half-ton F-1 to heavier-duty versions.

The series expanded over time, with the F-100 becoming especially well known in later generations. Ford eventually used the F-150 name for its half-ton pickup, while heavier models became part of the Super Duty range. The F-Series name remained the umbrella designation for Ford’s full-size pickup family.

The F-Series is sometimes confused with the Ranger, which is a separate midsize pickup line, or the Super Duty trucks, which serve heavier-duty applications. The Ford Bronco is an SUV rather than a pickup.
