Ford introduced the Ford Falcon in Australia in 1960.
The Australian Falcon was launched as a locally produced version of Ford’s compact North American Falcon. Ford Australia built the model to compete in a market where buyers wanted practical family cars that could handle local roads and conditions.
Although the early Australian Falcon was closely related to its American counterpart, later generations developed increasingly distinct bodies, engines, and engineering. The Falcon became one of Australia’s best-known locally manufactured cars and a major rival to the Holden Commodore.
The Australian Falcon should not be confused with the Argentine Falcon or the original North American Falcon, which had different production histories. Ford Australia ended Falcon production in 2016 after the company closed its Australian manufacturing operations.
