Which Brazilian exchange became B3 after merging with Cetip in 2017?
Answer
BM&FBovespa
Answer
BM&FBovespa
BM&FBovespa became part of B3 after merging with Cetip in 2017. The resulting company took the name B3, derived from Brasil, Bolsa, Balcão, meaning Brazil, Stock Exchange, Over-the-Counter.
BM&FBovespa itself had been created in 2008 by combining the São Paulo Stock Exchange, known as Bovespa, with the Brazilian Mercantile and Futures Exchange. This gave Brazil a major integrated venue for equities, commodities, futures, and other products.
Cetip operated important over-the-counter registration and settlement infrastructure. The 2017 merger therefore combined exchange-traded markets with a major financial-services and custody platform. B3 is headquartered in São Paulo and is Brazil’s principal exchange operator.
