Which brand created the iconic “Wings” logo for its Air Jordan line?

The story behind the answer

Nike created the iconic “Wings” logo for its Air Jordan line.

The Wings logo first appeared with the Air Jordan 1, which Nike released in 1985. Peter Moore, the shoe’s designer, created the winged basketball emblem as a symbol connected to flight and basketball. It was used on the shoe’s collar and became one of the key visual marks associated with the Jordan brand.

The Wings logo is separate from the Jumpman silhouette. The Jumpman, based on a photograph of Michael Jordan, became the better-known Jordan Brand emblem on later products, while the Wings mark remained especially associated with the Air Jordan 1 and retro versions.

Air Jordan began as a Nike basketball line built around Michael Jordan. Jordan Brand later became a major business unit within Nike, but Nike remains the company that created and originally released the Air Jordan line.
