The main story of Noah's Ark appears in the Book of Genesis, especially chapters 6 through 9. These chapters describe humanity's corruption, God's flood judgment, the Ark's construction, the survival of Noah's family and animals, and the covenant afterward.
Genesis is the first book of both the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. Its early chapters include creation, Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, genealogies, the flood, and the ancestors of Israel. Noah's story forms a bridge between the primeval history at the beginning of Genesis and the later stories of Abraham and his descendants.
The Ark narrative begins with God's instructions to Noah and ends with events in Noah's family after the flood. It is therefore broader than a single scene involving animals boarding a boat.
Flood traditions also occur in other biblical books and in the Quran, but Genesis is the biblical book containing the central Ark account familiar to Jewish and Christian readers.
