Which Boeing tanker aircraft is based on the 767 airliner?

The story behind the answer

The Boeing KC-46 Pegasus is the tanker aircraft based on the 767 airliner.

Boeing developed the KC-46 from the 767-200ER platform for the U.S. Air Force’s KC-X aerial-refueling competition. The aircraft retains the basic wide-body fuselage and wing architecture of the 767 but adds military systems, a reinforced structure, a refueling boom, hose-and-drogue equipment, and defensive features.

The KC-46 can refuel compatible aircraft while also carrying passengers, cargo, or aeromedical patients. Its remote-vision system gives boom operators a digital view of the receiver aircraft rather than placing them in a traditional tail position.

The U.S. Air Force accepted its first KC-46A in 2019. The KC-135 Stratotanker and KC-10 Extender were earlier U.S. Air Force tankers, so they are common alternatives in general tanker questions but are not the 767-based answer.
