Which Boeing military aircraft is designated the F-15 Eagle?

The story behind the answer

The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is the fighter aircraft designated F-15 Eagle.

The F-15 was developed by McDonnell Douglas for the United States Air Force as an air-superiority fighter. Its first flight took place in 1972, and the type entered service in 1976. Boeing later became responsible for the program after acquiring McDonnell Douglas in 1997.

The aircraft’s design emphasizes high thrust, maneuverability, a powerful radar, and a large weapons load. Its twin-engine layout and distinctive twin vertical tails are among its most recognizable features.

The F-15 is therefore a Boeing-associated aircraft today, but it was not originally designed by Boeing. That history distinguishes it from aircraft such as the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, which Boeing developed from the earlier McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 design. The F-22 Raptor is a different, later U.S. air-superiority fighter.
