Which Blue Jays pitcher started against Blake Snell in 2025 World Series Game 1?

Trey Yesavage started for the Toronto Blue Jays against Blake Snell in 2025 World Series Game 1.

The opener was played on October 24, 2025, at Toronto's Rogers Centre. Yesavage was a 22-year-old rookie making his first World Series start, a remarkable rise after beginning the season in the minor leagues. The Dodgers scored twice early, but Toronto eventually won the opener 11–4.

Yesavage's World Series story became even more notable in Game 5. Back at Dodger Stadium, he struck out 12 batters in a 6–1 Toronto victory, setting a rookie record for strikeouts in a World Series game. That performance is a common source of mix-ups: it was Game 5, not Game 1.

The other options were established or familiar Blue Jays pitchers, but none started the opener. Yesavage was Toronto's announced starter, while Snell opened for Los Angeles.
