Which bird is known for its blue feet and courtship dance?

The story behind the answer

The blue-footed booby is famous for its vivid blue feet and the elaborate courtship dance males perform to attract mates. A male struts, lifts and displays his feet, presents nesting material, and finishes with a dramatic sky-pointing pose.

The species lives along the Pacific coast of the Americas and is especially associated with the Galápagos Islands. Its blue feet are colored by carotenoid pigments from its fish-based diet, combined with specialized collagen structures in the skin. Brighter feet generally signal better current health and condition.

Masked and Nazca boobies are close relatives, while red-footed boobies have a different foot color. The blue-footed booby also has an unusual way of incubating eggs: instead of a typical brood patch, it uses its warm, vascularized feet. Both parents share incubation and chick-rearing duties.
