Which Beyoncé album is built around a three-act structure and was released in 2022?

The story behind the answer

Renaissance is the Beyoncé album released in 2022 as the first act of a planned three-act project.

Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album. It draws heavily on dance music, house, disco, funk, and Black and queer club culture. The project was presented as “Act I,” establishing a larger structure that later continued with Cowboy Carter.

The lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s first solo Billboard Hot 100 number-one single since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008. Other album tracks include “Cuff It,” “Alien Superstar,” and “Virgo’s Groove.”

Renaissance is not the same as Beyoncé’s 2016 visual album Lemonade. Its release also differed from the surprise strategy used for the self-titled Beyoncé album in 2013, because Renaissance had a public lead-up and scheduled release date.
