What was the name of Beyoncé’s role as Nala in the 2019 film The Lion King?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé voiced Nala in the 2019 film The Lion King.

The film is a photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney’s 1994 traditionally animated feature. Directed by Jon Favreau, it was released in July 2019. Beyoncé joined a cast that included Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar.

Nala is introduced as Simba’s childhood friend and later becomes his ally in reclaiming Pride Rock. Beyoncé also contributed music to the film’s soundtrack and curated The Lion King: The Gift, an album inspired by the movie and released in July 2019.

The role is sometimes mixed up with Beyoncé’s other film work, including Deena Jones in Dreamgirls and Etta James in Cadillac Records. Nala is a character, not the name of Beyoncé’s soundtrack album or her separate visual project Black Is King, which drew on music from The Lion King: The Gift.
