Brian Wilson is the Beach Boys member who fathered Wilson Phillips singers Carnie and Wendy Wilson.
Carnie and Wendy are Brian Wilson’s daughters with singer Marilyn Rovell, who performed with the Honeys. Carnie, born in 1968, and Wendy later formed the vocal trio Wilson Phillips with Chynna Phillips, daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas.
The family connection can be confusing because Dennis Wilson and Carl Wilson were also Beach Boys and Brian’s brothers. They were Carnie and Wendy’s uncles, not their father. Their grandfather was Murry Wilson, the Beach Boys’ early manager and a major influence on the group’s beginnings.
Wilson Phillips became especially successful after releasing its 1990 debut album. The group’s harmonies reflected both family traditions: the Wilson sisters’ Beach Boys lineage and Chynna Phillips’s Mamas & the Papas heritage.
