The British version of the international entrepreneur-investment format is the BBC Two programme Dragons' Den.
The programme was created for British television after the format became successful in Japan and other markets. Entrepreneurs enter a studio and present their businesses to a panel of potential investors. Each investor can offer money in exchange for an ownership stake, although offers may also include conditions, negotiation or no deal at all.
The title is important because the British programme uses “dragons” for its investors, whereas the United States adaptation is called Shark Tank. Both shows descend from the same broad format, but they are separate productions with different presenters, investors and broadcast histories.
The British series has also produced spin-off discussion and interview coverage, but the central programme remains the televised pitch meeting. Its most recognisable feature is the entrepreneurs’ walk into the pitch room before the dragons question them about sales, valuation and business plans.
