The UK version of Dragons' Den first aired on BBC Two in 2005.
The programme gives entrepreneurs a short presentation opportunity in front of wealthy investors, known as dragons. Contestants seek money in exchange for a percentage of their company, although the dragons can also offer advice or decline to invest.
BBC Two was the show's original home. The format later became one of the BBC's best-known factual-entertainment brands and was repeated on other BBC services. It is sometimes confused with the similarly formatted international versions, which use different broadcasters and investor panels.
The British programme was adapted from a Japanese business format and helped make televised investment pitches familiar to a wide audience.
