Which BBC radio broadcast series was adapted into C.S. Lewis's book Mere Christianity?
Answer
Broadcast talks
Answer
Broadcast talks
C.S. Lewis's book Mere Christianity was adapted from a series of BBC radio broadcast talks.
Lewis delivered the talks during the Second World War, beginning in 1941. The broadcasts presented basic Christian beliefs in accessible language for a general audience, rather than arguing for a particular denomination. Their popularity led to revisions and consolidation in print.
The finished book appeared in 1952 and combined material from three earlier broadcast-based works: The Case for Christianity, Christian Behaviour, and Beyond Personality. The title Mere Christianity refers to the shared core of Christian belief. It is therefore inaccurate to identify one of those earlier book titles as the name of the original radio series.
