Jane Goodall guest-edited BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on 31 December 2021.
Today traditionally invites prominent outside figures to guest-edit broadcasts during the week between Christmas and New Year. The arrangement began in 2003, giving guest editors an opportunity to shape discussions, choose contributors and highlight subjects important to them.
Goodall was one of the programme’s 2021 guest editors, alongside figures including footballer Raheem Sterling, General Sir Nick Carter and environmental writer James Rebanks. Her appearance connected the programme’s current-affairs format with her decades of work in primatology, conservation and animal welfare.
A common mix-up is to confuse Today with another BBC Radio 4 programme such as Woman’s Hour or Front Row. Today is the station’s flagship morning news and current-affairs programme, while the other options have different formats and editorial remits.
