Which BBC presenter hosted the first series of the British show Dragons' Den?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis hosted the first series of the British show Dragons' Den.

Davis is an economist, journalist and broadcaster who presented the programme when it launched on BBC Two in January 2005. In the format, the presenter introduces the business pitches and provides continuity around the Dragons’ negotiations.

He remained associated with the programme for its early years before leaving the presenting role. His broadcasting career also includes work on BBC radio and television, especially economics, business and current affairs.

The presenter is sometimes mistaken for one of the investors because he appears in the pitch-room setting. Davis was the host rather than a Dragon: he did not sit on the panel making investment offers or taking equity stakes.
