Peter Jones founded the electronics company Phones International Group before becoming a BBC Dragon’s Den investor.
Phones International Group was established by Jones in 1998 and operated in the mobile-communications and electronics market. The company’s name reflected the rapid expansion of mobile phones as a mainstream consumer technology.
Jones became one of the most recognisable long-serving investors on the BBC programme. His interests on the show have frequently included technology, consumer products, retail and businesses with potential for large-scale growth.
A common mix-up is to confuse Phones International Group with Jones’s later investment activities or with the wider Carphone Warehouse market. Phones International Group was his own founded company, not a business he merely backed on Dragon’s Den.
