Which BBC channel originally broadcast the UK business show Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

The UK business show Dragon's Den originally broadcast on BBC Two.

The programme launched in 2005 as a British adaptation of the Japanese format Money Tigers. Contestants present business ideas to a panel of wealthy investors, known as Dragons, and seek funding in exchange for equity. BBC Two was the channel associated with the programme at its launch and through much of its established run.

The show is sometimes confused with BBC One because it became a major mainstream programme, while several other BBC factual and entertainment series moved between channels over the years. The title also uses the British spelling “Dragons' Den”, unlike the North American title “Shark Tank”.

BBC Two’s version helped make televised business pitching familiar to a wide audience. Its format combines negotiation, valuation and presentation skills, so an appearance can be valuable even when no investment is agreed. The BBC programme has also produced spin-off coverage and inspired many international adaptations.
