The first series of the British show Dragons' Den was originally broadcast on BBC Two.
BBC Two aired the programme’s debut series in 2005, giving the format a national British platform. The channel was already strongly associated with factual, documentary and specialist programming, making it a natural home for a series centred on business proposals and investor negotiations.
The programme’s basic structure was established from the start: entrepreneurs enter the den, make a funding request, describe their business and answer detailed questions from the investors. A deal is possible only when an investor agrees that the valuation, product and commercial prospects justify the risk.
BBC Two is sometimes confused with BBC One because later success gave Dragons' Den a broad mainstream profile. The channel distinction matters historically, however: the programme’s first broadcast identity was tied to BBC Two. It also should not be confused with BBC Three, which launched as a separate digital channel around the same period.
