Which BBC channel originally broadcast the first series of Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

The first series of the British television programme Dragon's Den originally broadcast on BBC Two.

BBC Two launched the British adaptation on 4 January 2005. The channel was already known for factual programming, documentaries and specialist factual entertainment, making it a natural home for a show built around business plans and investment negotiations.

The programme later became prominent enough to receive BBC One exposure, but that later broadcasting history does not change the channel used for its debut series. The question concerns the original British run, not overseas versions or the programme's later scheduling.

International viewers may confuse BBC Two with BBC One because the show became a major mainstream BBC property. BBC Two is also distinct from BBC Three, which launched in 2003 as a separate digital channel.
