Which battle occurred after the Treaty of Ghent was signed?

The story behind the answer

The Battle of New Orleans occurred after the Treaty of Ghent was signed. American and British diplomats signed the treaty on December 24, 1814, in Ghent, Belgium, formally agreeing to end the War of 1812. Because communication across the Atlantic was slow, the armies in North America continued fighting until news of the agreement arrived.

The Battle of New Orleans was fought on January 8, 1815, near Chalmette, Louisiana. U.S. forces under Major General Andrew Jackson decisively defeated a larger British army commanded by Edward Pakenham. American defenders used earthworks and artillery to inflict heavy casualties while suffering comparatively few losses.

The battle did not cause the treaty, and it did not change its terms; the agreement had already been signed. It became famous because it was the war’s last major battle and because Jackson’s victory transformed him into a national political figure. The treaty became effective only after ratification by the United States Senate in February 1815.
