Which band released the debut album 'Ramones' in 1976?
Answer
Ramones
Answer
Ramones
The Ramones released their self-titled debut album, Ramones, in 1976.
Issued by Sire Records on April 23, 1976, the album introduced the New York band’s ultra-fast, compact punk sound. It was recorded in January 1976 at Plaza Sound in Manhattan in roughly seven days, with producer Craig Leon, for about $6,400. The opening track, “Blitzkrieg Bop,” became one of punk rock’s most recognizable songs.
The album’s cover—showing the four members against a brick wall—was photographed by Roberta Bayley and became one of rock’s most imitated images. Although the record was hugely influential, its initial commercial performance was modest; its importance grew as later musicians adopted the Ramones’ speed, simplicity, and short-song format.
A common mix-up is confusing the album’s title with a band member’s name. Ramones is both the group’s name and the title of its debut, while their next album, Leave Home, arrived in 1977.
