Which band performs “Life Is a Highway” in Pixar’s Cars?

Rascal Flatts performs “Life Is a Highway” in Pixar’s Cars.

The country trio recorded a new version of the song for the film’s soundtrack. Their energetic cover plays during a montage as Lightning McQueen travels toward California, accompanying the film’s road-trip theme and its visual journey across the United States.

Tom Cochrane originally wrote and recorded “Life Is a Highway” in 1991. Rascal Flatts’ 2006 version became closely associated with Cars and reached a much broader family audience through the movie and its soundtrack.

The song is sometimes confused with the soundtrack’s other prominent tracks, including “Our Town” by James Taylor and “Real Gone” by Sheryl Crow. Those songs are also part of Cars, but Rascal Flatts is the performer of “Life Is a Highway.”
