Who performed “Our Town” in Pixar’s Cars?

James Taylor performed “Our Town” in Pixar’s Cars. The song appears during the film’s reflective moments and was written specifically for the movie by Randy Newman.

“Our Town” accompanies the story’s emotional connection to Radiator Springs, a once-busy Route 66 community that has been bypassed by a newer interstate highway. Its lyrics emphasize memory, change, and the character of a place left behind.

The song earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song at the 79th Academy Awards. It also won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.

Randy Newman wrote and composed the song but did not provide the recording used in the film. Sheryl Crow and Brad Paisley are also associated with Cars soundtrack music, but they did not perform “Our Town.”
