John Williams wrote the main musical score for the 1993 film Jurassic Park.
Williams created the score for Steven Spielberg’s film, including the expansive main theme associated with the park’s first reveal. The music combines orchestral grandeur with quieter moments of wonder and danger, helping the film present dinosaurs as both magnificent discoveries and serious threats. The soundtrack was recorded with a large orchestra and released by MCA Records.
Williams had already collaborated with Spielberg on films such as Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. His Jurassic Park score received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Score. The film’s song “Journey to the Island” is also part of the score, but it is not the title of the main theme.
