Which author wrote the 1965 science fiction novel "Dune"?
Answer
Frank Herbert
Answer
Frank Herbert
The author of the 1965 science-fiction novel "Dune" is Frank Herbert. The novel follows Paul Atreides and his family after they are sent to Arrakis, a desert planet that produces the valuable substance known as spice melange.
Herbert developed the book over several years, partly inspired by his research into sand dunes near Florence, Oregon. His interest in ecology, desert environments, politics, religion, and the consequences of charismatic leadership shaped the novel's unusually broad scope. Before appearing as a book, parts of the story were published in serialized form in "Analog" magazine.
Chilton Books published "Dune" in 1965, despite the manuscript being rejected by many publishers. The novel later won the Nebula Award and shared the 1966 Hugo Award. Herbert continued the story in five sequels, beginning with "Dune Messiah" (1969). Philip K. Dick, Arthur C. Clarke, and Isaac Asimov were influential science-fiction authors, but none wrote "Dune."
