Which author co-founded the Inklings with C.S. Lewis?

The story behind the answer

J.R.R. Tolkien co-founded the Inklings with C.S. Lewis.

The Inklings was an informal Oxford literary discussion group associated especially with C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. The group met regularly in Lewis’s rooms at Magdalen College and at the Eagle and Child pub, commonly known by its nickname, the Bird and Baby. Members read drafts aloud, discussed literature, and debated ideas about myth, Christianity, and storytelling.

The Inklings was not a formally constituted society with a fixed membership list, so descriptions of its founder and members can vary. Charles Williams and Owen Barfield were also important participants. Tolkien’s friendship with Lewis helped encourage the development of The Lord of the Rings, while Lewis’s Narnia books emerged from his own distinct creative project. The group is remembered for its influence on twentieth-century fantasy and Christian literary culture.
