Ash Barty won the 2022 Australian Open women’s singles title. She defeated American Danielle Collins 6–3, 7–6 (7–2) in the final at Rod Laver Arena.
Barty entered the tournament as the world No. 1 and did not drop a set during the championship. Her victory ended a 44-year wait for an Australian homegrown women’s singles champion: Chris O’Neil had been the previous Australian woman to win the title, in 1978.
The triumph was Barty’s first Australian Open singles crown and her third major title, following her 2019 French Open and 2021 Wimbledon victories. It also completed major singles titles on three different surfaces. Barty retired from professional tennis in March 2022, only two months after winning in Melbourne, making the title the final tournament victory of her career.
