Which Australian gulf lies between Arnhem Land and Cape York Peninsula?

The story behind the answer

The Australian gulf between Arnhem Land and Cape York Peninsula is the Gulf of Carpentaria.

The Gulf of Carpentaria is a broad, shallow sea off northern Australia. Arnhem Land and the Northern Territory lie to its west, while Cape York Peninsula forms its eastern side; its northern opening leads toward the Arafura Sea.

The gulf is more than 700 kilometres long from north to south and covers roughly 300,000 square kilometres. Its generally shallow waters support extensive seagrass, commercial prawn fisheries, and rich coastal habitats.

During the last Ice Age, sea levels were about 120 metres lower and the gulf was dry land. A large freshwater lake, often called Lake Carpentaria, occupied the basin before rising seas flooded it. It is distinct from Spencer Gulf and Exmouth Gulf, both located elsewhere in Australia.
