Ksubi was originally called Tsubi.
The Australian denim label was established in 1999 by Dan Single, George Gorrow, and Oscar Wright, along with creative collaborators. It became known for distressed jeans, unconventional styling, and an irreverent approach to fashion that contrasted with more traditional denim branding.
The company changed its name from Tsubi to Ksubi after a trademark dispute in the United States. The altered spelling preserved the brand’s distinctive sound while creating a name it could use internationally.
The label’s early identity grew from Sydney’s independent fashion and creative scenes. Ksubi is therefore not simply a renamed American brand; its Australian origins are an important part of its story. The name change is also why older references and garments may use Tsubi.
