Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad is known as the Mentor of the Levantine Brotherhood.

Altaïr is the central protagonist of the original Assassin's Creed, which was released in 2007. He begins the story as a highly ranked Assassin whose arrogance causes him to lose status and equipment. His subsequent missions force him to confront political manipulation, personal responsibility, and the limits of unquestioned obedience.

After the events of the first game, Altaïr becomes the Mentor of the Levantine Assassin Brotherhood. He reforms parts of the organization, develops new methods, and influences later generations through his writings and leadership. His life is also explored in Assassin's Creed Revelations, which presents his legacy alongside Ezio Auditore's final story.

Altaïr is sometimes confused with Ezio because both are major historical protagonists and both lead Assassin organizations. They belong to different periods, however: Altaïr operates mainly in the medieval Levant, while Ezio's principal adventures take place in Renaissance Italy and Constantinople. Altaïr's name means “the flying one” in Arabic.
