Which Assassin's Creed protagonist is canonically female in Assassin's Creed Odyssey?

The story behind the answer

Kassandra is the canonically female protagonist of Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Odyssey lets players choose Kassandra or Alexios as the playable mercenary, but later official material identifies Kassandra as the canonical protagonist. The game is set in ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War, beginning in 431 BCE. Kassandra is a descendant of King Leonidas I of Sparta and carries the broken spear associated with her bloodline.

Alexios remains an important character in the story, but in the canonical arrangement he appears as Deimos, a powerful member of the Cult of Kosmos. This choice can cause confusion because the player can experience the campaign through either character's playable model and voice.

Kassandra's story extends beyond the main Greek campaign. The Fate of Atlantis expansion and later franchise material continue to present her as the central historical figure. She also appears in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, making her one of the series' characters whose story spans multiple historical eras.
