Bayek of Siwa is the protagonist of Assassin's Creed Origins.
Bayek is a Medjay, a protector and law enforcer in Ptolemaic Egypt. The story begins after a personal tragedy and follows his investigation into a secret organization influencing political power. His journey helps explain the origins of the Hidden Ones, the group that later develops into the Assassin Brotherhood.
Origins is set mainly during the first century BCE, when Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII compete for control of Egypt. The game explores locations such as Siwa, Alexandria, and Memphis, and it introduced a larger role-playing structure to the series. Bayek is sometimes confused with Aya, his wife and an important co-founder of the Hidden Ones, but he is the primary playable character. The title Origins refers both to the historical setting and to the Brotherhood's beginnings.
