Shay Patrick Cormac defects from the Assassins and joins the Templars in Assassin's Creed Rogue.
Shay begins the game as an Assassin operating in the North Atlantic during the eighteenth century. After a mission involving an ancient artifact causes a devastating earthquake in Lisbon, he becomes disillusioned with the Brotherhood's methods and leaves it.
He is later recruited by the Templars and hunts former Assassin allies. Rogue therefore reverses the usual player perspective: the protagonist belongs to the Templar Order for most of the story, while the Assassins are often his opponents.
The game connects several major narratives. Shay encounters figures associated with Assassin's Creed III and Black Flag, and its events lead into the opening circumstances of Assassin's Creed Unity. Shay's ship is the Morrigan, not Edward Kenway's Jackdaw.
